How do you brew? In the same way we roast our beans to different levels in order to bring out the brightest flavors, the way you make your coffee can change the tasting profile. Below are four of the most common coffee brewing methods & how to use them so that your coffee truly shines.
POUR OVER
- Rinse filter with 100g of water.
- Dispose of rinse water.
- Pour coffee into filter.
- Make a gentle divot in the middle of the coffee bed.
- FIRST POUR: Bloom coffee by slowing pouring a fine stream of 50g of water.
- Swirl the brewer or stir with spoon.
- Wait for 90 seconds.
- SECOND POUR: Using 150g water, pour aggressively with a center-focused pour to disrupt the bed of coffee.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- FINAL POUR: Using 175g water, pour slowly in circular motion.
- In two circular motions, stir the bed.
- Wait for drawdown and enjoy.
AEROPRESS
- In the inverted position, add coffee to AeroPress.
- Add 30g of water and gently stir 10x.
- Wait 45 seconds.
- Pour 175g of water, gently stir 5x until 1:10 mark (total brewing time).
- Add two rinsed filters to Aeropress cap and add cap to AeroPress.
- Flip and press for 20 seconds until the 2:00 minute mark (total brewing time).
BATCH BREWER
- Dark and flavored coffees contain more oils which lead to pipe corrosion.
- If you have brewed store bought coffee in the past, consider running one or two batches half vinegar and half water through your brewer to clean.
FRENCH PRESS
- Add coffee to French Press & add 100g of 208° F water to bloom coffee.
- Stir and let rest for one minute.
- Add 540g of water.
- Stir again, then place lid on.
- Wait 2 minutes.
- Give it a stir and replace the lid.
- Wait 2 minutes.
- Plunge, pour, & enjoy.
